Comments from VEBA President, Barbara Tabb

As many of you may have seen, Governor Northam has declared a state of emergency at the Capitol grounds from Jan. 17 at 5:00 pm through Jan. 21 at 5:00 pm. This includes our Legislative Day. The cause for the emergency is primarily because of events happening on Monday, Jan. 20. We do not expect this emergency situation to extend into Tuesday, but we need to be aware that it could. Please pay attention to your e-mail on Monday, we will contact you if anything needs to be changed. Even without the emergency there will be increased security for accessing the legislative office building. There may be long lines and the security is similar to going through airport security. We would recommend that you bring minimal bags that will have to be searched. Needless to say all weapons, including firearms, are prohibited in the Capitol as well as on the Capitol grounds. We are hoping that we will be able to continue to do our business, the business of a free democracy.

Welcome to the new VEBA website. This website is for our members and the public to have a central location to provide information about topics in the press, Information about upcoming activities, and to make available contact information for the representatives of the Organization.

A major goal of the site will be to provide information about legislation in the General Assembly that we have positions on.

We are looking for more volunteers to work on our Web Content / Maintenance, Legislative Review and Training Committees. IF you are willing to participate in these activities please let your district director know or contact us directly.

Looking forward to working with each of you.
